Chelsea has an excellent range of restaurants, private members clubs and bars to keep everyone entertained; and perhaps has some of the best night life in London. In addition to drinking holes, there’s a wide range of cultural activities to enjoy from art galleries to cinemas.
Chelsea has a fantastic selection of educational institutions both private and state funded. Marlborough primary school has been transformed in a state of the art facility that also hosts extra-curricular activities for sport and drama. Other popular schools in the area include such as Garden House (Turks Row), Oratory (Bury Walk), Hill House Junior (Flood Street) and Christ Church (Robinson Street).
Chelsea has a number of underground stations within it or in close walking distance. Sloane Square is the main underground station with Circle and District line connection but some parts of Chelsea are in closer proximity to South Kensington that also has the Piccadilly line. Along the Kings Road and Embankment there are numerous bus routes going into the West-End and City. For the investment bankers wanting a change from the norm you can catch the river bus from various locations along Chelsea Embankment that will take you right into Canary Wharf.

Burton Court is a popular green space - visitors do need apply for membership, but once approved it is an idyllic open green space to visit, with tennis courts moments from the Kings Chelsea. it is also possible to hire for private functions such as hosting cricket matches and summer evening soirées. Chelsea is wedged between some of London’s most iconic parks: just north is Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens, and south of river there is Battersea Park, which is well known for its outdoor sports facilities, zoo and annual fireworks event. A small unknown public space to even most locals is Royal Hospital and Ranelagh Gardens within the grounds of the Royal Hospital - ideal for picnics, strolls and relaxing outdoors.
The Chelsea Physic Garden, established in 1673 is a hidden London gem and London’s oldest botanical garden. Over its long history, the Garden has been at the heart of ground-breaking research which has not only furthered our understanding of plants and herbal medicines, but has also contributed to life-saving treatments for diseases such as malaria. As a proud partner of the garden, Chestertons has created a beautiful brochure on the history of the garden; you can see this here.
Chelsea has a strong fashion heritage that stretches back to the 60s and 70s when emerging designers such as Vivienne Westwood opened boutiques in the area. Today the area may be less bohemian than it was in the 60s but the wide range of shops and boutiques means that everyone can find something to match their individual style. Sloane Street has a wealth of high-end boutiques ranging from Chanel to Tiffany & Co to Jo Malone and there is always the reliable Peter Jones department that is a cornerstone of Sloane Square. As expected for an area like Chelsea, there’s also a great range of upmarket eateries and cafes. Colberts is the place to be in the summer, a popular brasserie ideal for people watching whilst tucking into tasty food. Sticks and Sushi are located on the Kings Road and for those special occassions Gordon Ramsays flagship 3 Michelin star restaurant is located on Royal Hospital Road and Bray Place has Five Fields (1 Michelin star English cuisine).
Chelsea is spoilt for choice when it comes to groceries with a flurry of local shops located on Chelsea Green including Paxton & Whitfield (for cheese) Pie Man (for delicatessen and hand prepared meals to take home), Chelsea Fishmonger and Andreas (a wide array of grocery products for the avid cook).
Best place for a quiet drinkBest place for coffee: Our office in Chelsea highly rates the Good Life Eatery. They serve great flat white coffees and a range of sweet organic delights. One of Chelsea’s nicest features is the local pubs located on the back streets which are away from the hustle and bustle of Kings Road, popular ones to mention are The Phoenix (Smith Street), The Phene (Phene Street) and The Builders Arms (Britten Street). There are many hidden gems to mention but the Surprise (Christchurch Street) is ideal for a quiet Sunday roast and drink.
