Eco Friendly Habits For Your Home

    BackBack to results

Chestertons continues to focus on green awareness in 2023, and we are happy to partner with Sophie from A Considered Life - a UK-based eco-conscious lifestyle blog. In our series, we will share tips for adopting environmentally friendly habits in daily life.

With the cost of living increasing and energy prices rising, we’re all looking for ways to save money while being kinder to the planet. The start of a fresh year is a great opportunity to adopt eco-friendly habits that make life at home more sustainable. Here are five simple yet effective resolutions that will have a big impact.

    Choose Energy Efficient Appliances

When old appliances need to be replaced and new ones purchased, the best option is an energy efficient one. These appliances are perfect for making a home more eco-friendly. They’ll also save money too. Not sure which ones to buy? Look for the energy efficient label. This useful little chart shows which appliances are best at being the most cost effective and eco-friendly to run.

    Switch to Renewable Energy

Switching to a renewable energy supplier is the simplest way to make a home more sustainable. Using renewable energy from natural resources has fewer carbon emissions, making it not only more eco-friendly but cheaper too. Interested in making the switch? Move onto a green tariff from one of the big energy suppliers, or switch to a specialist green energy supplier.

    Use Eco-Friendly Cleaning Products

Want to make a difference without putting in much effort? Switch to green cleaning products. This low effort habit shift is easy to adopt but still makes a big difference. Earth-friendly products can be found in all major supermarkets and are just as effective at cleaning, whether it’s clothes or dishes. Just look for the green certifications to help pick the most eco-friendly products.

Wash Clothes Less Often and On A Lower Heat

Make it a new year’s resolution to only wash clothes when they really need it, instead of throwing them in the laundry bin after wearing them just once. It’s not only better for the environment, it’s more eco-friendly and cost effective too. Don’t worry about compromising on cleanliness. Using a lower heat will clean clothes just as well as washing on over 30 degrees.

    Reduce Food Waste

As tempting as it is to dine out or order takeaway, wasted food has one of the biggest impacts on the environment. So if there’s leftovers in the fridge or food about to go off, avoid wasting it. Either turn it into something new or put it in the freezer for later. It sounds easy because it is. Sometimes the simplest solutions to being more eco-friendly are the most obvious.
