Castle View – an outstanding place to enjoy your retirement in Windsor?

    BackBack to results

In a recent article we wrote about the benefits of retiring to Windsor, with thanks to our friends at Castle View independent living for their guidance. However, once you’ve gained the benefits of moving to a beautiful location where you know you’re supported, how do you choose how to spend your time.

Whether you enjoy the arts, music, have a passion for food, are a green-fingered gardener, or you’re a social butterfly with a penchant for parties, Windsor is home to a host of entertainment, but you don’t have to go beyond your doorstep to find plenty to enjoy.

Castle View has a talent for creating a diverse and regular schedule of entertainment. Past events have ranged from a night with 'Elvis' to afternoon tea and talks with the former Senior Gardener at Highgrove House, a 'Drive It Day' which brought more than 50 classic cars to the estate, as well as a James Bond Casino and Cocktails Night.

Coming up, here are some of the top events to put in your diary if you’re a Castle View resident:

    Fish and chip Friday

Most of us are creatures of habit, and one of the things that Castle View does really well is offer a series of regular events that homeowners can look forward to. Fish and Chip Friday lunches and dinners are certainly amongst the most popular. That classic British culinary pastime is a wonderful way to end the week on the first Friday of each month. Plenty of salt and vinegar on ours please!

Tea, tales, and tunes: An afternoon of creative connection

Afternoon tea is a classic British joy, but on 10th September, Castle View takes the experience up a notch with added entertainment and engagement. Alongside plenty of tea and scones piled high with clotted cream and jam, their Tea, Tales, and Tunes event is an afternoon of creative connection led by poet Jane Speller and singer Alice Foxley. The story-telling duo is set to engage the audience in a combination of readings, songs, and a good singalong - all free for homeowners and invited guests.

A virtual tour of Frogmore House

Windsor is known, perhaps most of all, as being the location of one of the favourite royal residences, and within the grounds of Windsor Castle you may be familiar with Frogmore House. Most recently the home of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, up until 2023, it was built between 1680 and 1684 by Charles II, once housed the unmarried daughters of Queen Charlotte, and has offered a peaceful refuge for generations of royals, including Queen Victoria. On 1st October this year, Castle View homeowners are invited to a virtual tour of the impressive property, replete with historic tales and facts. It will be led by Joshua Lovell, a lifelong Windsor resident who spent eight years working at Windsor Castle. Tickets are £5, payable at reception on the day.

    A history of pantomime

As we head towards the festive season, pantomimes are on our mind, but where does the tradition of jest-filled jollity come from? Getting us all in the mood for celebrations, on 12th November, Castle View's Sky Lounge sets the stage for a unique history lesson as actor (and panto veteran) Pete Allen dives into the history of pantomime, with an entertaining talk encompassing fairy tales, slapstick humor, cross-dressing and catchy songs, complete with a few personal anecdotes. Tickets are £5, payable at reception on the day.

    A Royal Christmas

When in Windsor, do as the royals do with a 'Royal Christmas' at Castle View. On 3rd December, Guide Lecturer for Historic Royal Palaces, Siobhan Clarke, will lead a talk on how royal traditions have shaped Christmas celebrations over the centuries, bringing her extensive knowledge and insights to a fascinating discussion spanning Tudor times and pagan customs, German influences, and modern ideas, showing how they have defined the way we all celebrate Christmas in the UK today. Tickets are just £5, payable at reception on the day.

    Bridge and Rummikub

As well as Friday Fish and Chips, there are a number of other regular events at Castle View, spanning health and wellbeing to entertainment. Amongst them, regular Bridge & Rummikub evenings are top of the to-do list, offering an opportunity for a little friendly competition, social engagement, and perhaps even the opportunity to learn something new!

    Strengthening and balance physio classes

One of the things that many homeowners at Castle View enjoy is the knowledge that this is a community that encourages you to enjoy an active retirement that supports longevity, including strength and wellbeing into old age. One of their most popular features is their regular strengthening and balance physio classes, which are not only an enjoyable way to remain active, but are also designed to help prevent falls and injuries or manage conditions for an improved quality of life.

    The Sky Larks Choir

Music is something that many of us have a passion for - lifting us up when we feel down, offering an opportunity to meet other people, expand our horizons and celebrate good times. Castle View is a very musical place, with its own homeowners choir - The Skylarks - enjoying regular practices together on Thursdays, and perhaps the odd performance or two so that non-singing residents can enjoy the harmonious sounds of favourite songs throughout the year.

    Discovery days at Castle View

Are you interested in enjoying life at Castle View, and curious to see behind the scenes to get an insight into what life might be like there? From 9th to 12th September they are issuing exclusive Discovery Day invitations to prospective homeowners and renters, so you can explore what's right for you. Perhaps you have a friend who already lives at Castle View, or maybe you've simply heard lots of good things?

See what it's like to enjoy the privacy of your own home with the luxury and convenience of five-star hotel living, from restaurant quality dining to friendly service and a vibrant social life. They're even offering exclusive incentives for any reservations made during that week, such as paid Stamp Duty, a 12-month community fee holiday, £10,000 towards legal costs, or a £2,500 contribution towards your moving costs or rent.

No mere walk around, this is an opportunity to get a unique insight into the social scene at Castle View as well. Those who visit on 9th September get the chance to enjoy a relaxed, unhurried tour, meeting the team without scheduled social events. However, those joining on 10th September can follow their viewing with a complimentary afternoon tea at 2:30pm, complete with live music. Then, on 12th September your tour is complete with a classic fish and chip lunch.

Spaces are going fast! To secure your slot, contact their Later Life Adviser, Nicky King on 01753 378127 or [email protected].
